Circular of the refuges and Vereda de la Estrella
From Explora Güéjar Sierra Nevada we invite you to know one of the most popular and most beautiful trails in the Sierra Nevada National Park.
La Vereda de la Estrella was built in 1890 with the aim of facilitating communication with the mines of galena and pyrite that was in the upper head of the Genil Valley so that through it we entered the heart of the Sierra Nevada in its North Face.
The route begins in the Barranco de San Juan, where was the last stop of the longed-for Sierra Nevada Tram. We enter the National Park to ascend gently between chestnut, oak and maple, following the course of the River Genil in a privileged natural environment.
During the route, which will take us between 6 and 7 hours, we will find a very colorful and leafy riverbank landscape, passing through old chestnut trees like the one known as “El Abuelo”, and we will be able to observe incredible panoramas of the North Face of peaks like the Alcazaba as we go seeing the change in vegetation as we increase the altitude.
It is a path where water predominates, crossing well-known rivers and ravines such as the Barranco del Guarnón, which is born in Corral del Veleta, or El Real, Valdecasillas and Valdeinfierno, which join to form the popular Rio Genil.
